Your Itinerary for Memorial Day Weekend in NYC

May 25, 2012

So, you’re staying in town over the long weekend and want to spend a little time being productive? Ok, maybe not that productive (you need to catch up on some much needed rest). Don’t fret! Damsels has a fail-proof itinerary for you to visit the best design spots this Memorial Day weekend.

Saturday (Downtown Hip)
Sleep in.
Hit snooze about a dozen more times.
Head over to Madison Square Park for its EATS festival where you can savor some Birch Coffee and munch on Momufuku Milk Bar Birthday Cake Truffles (we always eat dessert first) under a Marimekko umbrella!

Visit Joshua Liner Gallery for the recently opened Dark Island exhibition featuring Denver-based artist Evan Hecox. Current works are inspired by his travels around lower Manhattan and Brooklyn (all the hip spots of course. read: Williamsburg and LES)
End your day with a stroll along the Highline–we know you want to do some (window) shopping in the Meatpacking District!

Sunday (Uptown Chic)
Brunch at Square Meal  (it’s a hidden gem on 92nd Street and Madison Avenue).
Stroll down Fifth Avenue to the Neue Galerie to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gustav Klimt.

Sip on Holunderbeerensaft at Cafe Sabarsky inside Neue Galerie (for those of you who don’t speak German the drink is made of elderberry juice and sparkling water).
Rent a model boat in Central Park.

Monday (Island Party)
Before you’re whisked away on a ferry out to Governor’s Island for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Open Studio Event, fill up on yummy dim-sum at Red Egg in Chinatown. Your taste buds will thank you!
Once on the island rent a bike, take in the Manhattan skyline, and find a good spot to take a nap (you’ll need plenty of energy to go back to work on Tuesday!)
